HANDS OF FRIENDSHIP QUILT GUILD MINUTES
SEPTEMBER 17, 2014
The Hands Of Friendship Quilt Guild met Wednesday, September 17, 2014, at the First United Methodist Church, Kirksville, in a classroom. The meeting was called to order at 6:35 p.m. by President Di Zook.
Roll Call was answered by 31 members and 1 guest, Jean Kirkpatrick, a friend of Alice Allinson and Jo Conklin.
The minutes were approved as sent out. Treasurer Joan Harrison circulated the Treasurer’s Report, and it was approved.
Thanks to Alice Allinson, Barb Bevell, and others for helping Di and Meredith out of the building last month. There was a problem with the Guild’s key and they were unable to lock the building.
Bonnie Hunter Workshop:
(*NOTE: Members, see additional details on the HOF Guild Members Only page.)
Linda Pickett announced the plans that have been put in place for the Bonnie Hunter Workshop/Lecture/Trunk Show to be held at the Novinger Fire House September 17, 18, 19, 2015. The Committee met August 30, 2014, and have cancelled the scheduled September 27, 2014, meeting because they feel all the plans are complete for now and more information may be given as the time for the Workshop gets closer.
On Thursday, September 17, 2015, there will be a ½ day workshop from 2:00-6:00 p.m. The workshop will be on “Playing with Jacks”, with a free pattern from their website (Quiltville.com). Cost is $55.00*.
Friday, September 18, 2015, will be a full day workshop from 9:00 a.m.-4:00 p.m. on “Jared Takes a Wife,” with a free pattern from their website. Cost is $60.00*. Also, on September 18, there will be a Trunk Show at 7:00 p.m. The Trunk Show is $10.00 at the door*. Up to 100 people can be seated at the Trunk Show and Guild members are to bring one dozen cookies for a reception afterward.
Saturday, September 19, 2015, will be a full day workshop from 9:00 a.m.-4:00 p.m. on “Texas Tumbleweeds.” The book required for this workshop, More Adventures with Leaders and Enders, can be obtained from their website. The charge for this workshop is $60.00*. Lunch can also be “brown-bagged” if you so wish.
Lunch on both Friday & Saturday will be a buffet at a cost of $10.00 per person.
Guild members will sign up and pay their fees in February and March, 2015, and all the workshops, etc. will be open to the public beginning April 1, 2015.
The goal of the Bonnie Hunter Committee is to only spend half the money that has been allotted for this function and the rest can be saved for a similar future event.
NEW BUSINESS: None.
Community Service: Renae Farnsworth announced that kits for Veteran’s quilts are available tonight, to be picked up following the meeting.
Renae asked which dates presented would be most convenient for a workday at the Annex. We will mainly work on Veterans’ quilts, although you can bring your own project to work on. She has invited the ROTC cadettes to come help with the various aspects of making these quilts, but does not know that they will assist. Saturday, October 18, 2014, was chosen as the date for this project.
Renae also passed out information for the construction of “Days for Girls International” Standard Shield Pattern, and passed out fliers about an informational meeting for that project on Saturday, October 4, 2014, from 9:00 a.m.-Noon. It will be at the Northeast Missouri Health Council Family Health and V.A. Clinic Conference Room, 1506 Crown Drive. The entrance is at the back of the building. They will give instructions on how to sew and assemble hygiene kits, and will be cutting patterns for the kits. RSVP for this event at email@example.com.
Courtesy: Kay Beach had surgery recently but Kathy did not know about it. A card will be sent to Kay belatedly.
Newsletter: Barb Bevell asked if the newsletter was to include the minutes and that has been done in the past. Kathy will send the minutes to Barb and she will include them in the newsletters.
Kay Beach and Mary Magruder have neither one been receiving the minutes that Kathy sent out, so she will check to be sure she has the correct email addresses.
Nominating: No one has signed up for this committee.
Challenge Quilt: The Committee has met and picked out patterns from Bonnie Hunter quilts. They felt these patterns would be appropriate since Bonnie Hunter will be here that fall. The patterns will be announced at the next meeting.
Christmas Party: The Committee has not met as of this date.
The workshop on November 8, 2014, will be held at the Methodist Church, with breakfast at 8:00 a.m., and the workshop beginning at 8:30 a.m.-12:00 noon, when we will have lunch. Following lunch, there will be a trunk show. Attendees can bring their own project if they so desire. Dawn Heese will be the presenter and will be here to assist attendees until 4:00 p.m., unless there is inclement weather. Cost of the workshop is $25.00 for the day and many paid their fees tonight. The workshop will be on the 66” square pieced quilt and if anyone wants to add appliqué strips across the top and bottom, the quilt will be 78” x 66”.
Thanks were expressed to Rose Marie Smith for the 2014-2015 Handbooks she printed. Some brought canned items for the Helping Hand Mission and they were thanked for their donations.
