February 2015 Program: Tim Tucker

The HOF Quilt guild was treated to a wonderful program by Tim Tucker. Tim showed a number of quilts that had belonged to his mother, Trevia. Several of our members knew Trevia and shared stories of her with Tim and the guild.

Some of the quilts were family pieces and others were ones she particularly liked. Many were purchased while on trips to various parts of the country, particularly California.  Andrea O’Brien read the background of the quilts as they were held up by Tim and Alice Allinson.  The hand quilting on many of them was beautiful. The extremely tiny stitches and the “number of stitches to the inch” was a part of the story of these lovely quilts.

November 2014 Program: “The Bonnie Hunter Challenge”

The November Program for the HOF Quilt Guild was presented by Peggy Clark, Michele Breault, and Susan Guffey. Not only did they issue the 2014-2015 Annual HOF Challenge, they highlighted quite a few Bonnie K. Hunter’s quilts that Peggy had made over the years, including several of the Challenge quilts: “Boxy Stars” (two versions!!)  and “Nine Patch Split”.  Peggy shared her method of organizing the patterns and brought four of Bonnie’s books for us to reference. Be sure to check out Michele’s hexi quilt–WOW!! Sit back and enjoy these beautiful quilts!

Quilts for Veterans

On November 11, 2014, several members of the Hands of Friendship Quilt Guild met to deliver quilts that had been made for veterans. A list of veterans in our local area was collected, and personal visits to homes, businesses, and local restaurants were made to find and deliver these quilts. The recipients were not informed ahead of time, and all were personally and visibly touched. Most of these veterans had recently returned from Afghanistan, or had served in Qatar, Iraq, or other locations. The men said how much they loved quilts, and how thankful they were for the thoughts and kindnesses.

A thank you to all the members who were involved in making these beautiful quilts, quilting them, and delivering them. This is a very special and valuable service that our guild members are involved in each year. This service has been an ongoing project since 2009.
